The Klein Family School of Communications Design (KFSCD) invites applications for the position of Full-time Lecturer in Interactive and Graphic Design. The position is a full-time, renewable contract appointment, 9.5-month instructional faculty position, with a 4/4 teaching load, beginning August 2021 (contingent on final budgetary approval). The position carries the possibility for promotion.

We seek a student-oriented colleague with a demonstrated commitment to collaboration across programs and an ability to teach all levels of graduate and undergraduate design courses.  The successful candidate will teach primarily in interactive and digital design and will have a full knowledge of graphic design history and theory. The position requires professional accomplishments and evidence of teaching ability in both theory and process appropriate for classroom and online instruction at all levels. Candidates must also demonstrate an awareness of current industry trends in the design field and the desire to explore new developments both theoretically and in practice.

Faculty members in KFSCD contribute to program and curriculum development, serve on MFA thesis committees, maintain a professional practice or creative/research agenda, and participate in university service and other areas of faculty responsibility. UB offers classes daytime, evening and weekend; both face-to-face and in various types of online environments (fully online, hybrid, synchronous, asynchronous); and in two locations – at our main Baltimore campus and at our University of Shady Grove location in Rockville, MD. We define a successful candidate as someone who will be flexible with regard to all these teaching possibilities.

Four innovative programs in KFSCD offer design classes: the MFA in Integrated Design, the MA in Integrated Design, MFA in Creative Writing and Publishing Arts, and the BA in Digital Communication. The School’s interdisciplinary faculty are continually developing new ways of approaching and teaching design. KFSCD is an innovative and dynamic environment in touch with the current marketplace, with a mission of helping students become accomplished professionals. Our programs all rely heavily on digital design, and programs in other divisions link to this curriculum as well.
