Position Summary: FIorida Atlantic University (FAU) Department of Visual Arts & Art History (Broward Campuses) invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track position in Graphic Design at the level of Assistant Professor, starting August 2019. The successful candidate must be committed to undergraduate and graduate teaching and mentoring. The teaching load is five courses per academic year. A strong interest in cross-disciplinary collaboration is welcomed as well as the willingness and ability to seek external research funding. Additional responsibilities include oversight of facilities, active engagement in the shared responsibilities of departmental service and faculty governance, and service to the university and community. About the Department: The Department of Visual Arts and Art History, an integral component of the School of the Arts at Florida Atlantic University, provides students with a forum that actively engages and expands their creative and scholarly abilities within the context of a disciplinary and interdisciplinary setting. The program is devoted to offering a diverse curriculum dedicated to educating designers, artists, and art historians. There are more than 800 majors currently enrolled, making it one of the largest art programs in the state of Florida. It attracts both national and international students, who study alongside more than 20 full–time faculty and active artists, whose areas of expertise include Art History, Painting, Drawing, Sculpture, Photography, Ceramics, Printmaking, Digital Imaging, and Graphic Design. The FAU Broward campuses host upper division and the MFA Graphic Design curriculum as well as the upper division programs in Communications Multimedia and Architecture. About the Community: Broward County is the geographic center of the major metropolitan area stretching from Miami to Palm Beach. The area is home to a diverse, international population and an active creative community. Three international airports, numerous art museums including 2 design museums, serve the region. Minimum Qualifications: Master of Fine Arts from an accredited institution or another terminal degree in graphic design, visual communication, digital media, or interaction design required by time of application.Must have an accomplished portfolio of design work. Demonstrated teaching and professional experience in the following areas: interactive design, design theory, visual design principles, and typography required. So much typography education is focused on print, (e.g., widows, orphans, leading, kerning, tracking, rivers.) These are not web design concerns, and are not terminology related to CSS.
