The School of Art and Design features many areas of study and offers five undergraduate programs — communication design, studio, photography, art education, and art history. It also offers an MFA program in communication design. Our programs are nationally and regionally recognized, including our BFA and MFA in communication design. We believe in fostering conceptual and technical abilities necessary for artistic expression, and our more than 80 diverse faculty members support this effort. We are seeking a communication design educator, researcher, and BFA program coordinator to help lead our large and already successful area into an even more promising future by keeping pace with an ever-changing industry. Responsibilities include: • Coordinate BFA Communication Design Program (course scheduling, program communication, curriculum, purchasing, personnel and general management). • Teach at the BFA and/or MFA level as assigned by the Director. • Pursue research/creative activity in relevant discipline and maintain a substantive record of professional/peer recognition. • Engage in service to the school, college, university, community and profession. Middle Tennessee State University’s Art & Design Department seeks applicants for two full-time, tenure-track faculty positions at the rank of assistant/associate professor in Graphic Design. Start date for these positions is August 1, 2019. The ideal candidate for the Interactive Design position (415080) will have extensive professional, creative-industry experience in traditional print and digital graphic design media. Applicants should exhibit a mastery of graphic design skills; have comprehensive knowledge of design principles; demonstrate a solid understanding of typography in their work; possess knowledge of UI/UX design trends and theories; exhibit expertise in traditional and new design industry-standard software; have professional, creative-industry experience; and recognition for their achievements in the field. MFA in Graphic Design or a comparable MFA/terminal degree in an affiliated discipline. The successful candidate for the Illustration position (122250) will have extensive professional experience in traditional and digital illustration mediums. Applicants should demonstrate a mastery of drawing/illustration skills; have a comprehensive knowledge of current illustration trends, techniques, software, and theories; should have a comprehensive knowledge of Adobe Suite design programs including Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign. The Art Department at Southern Connecticut State University invites professionals in the field of Graphic Design committed to college teaching and knowledgeable in screen-based media such as interactive design, web design, mobile application development, and/or motion graphics to apply for a full-time tenure-track position in Graphic Design at the Assistant Professor level. SCSU, a diverse, comprehensive university of about 10,000 students located in New Haven, CT, regards enabling student success to be its highest priority. Brief Description of Duties/Responsibilities: Teach Graphic Design courses from introductory to advanced, with a focus on developing students' skills related to interactive design and other screen-based media. Help to advise and mentor students, develop curriculum, coordinate internships, supervise adjunct faculty, manage lab facilities, and participate in departmental recruiting and governance while sustaining professional and academic work appropriate to the discipline. Nominal teaching load is 12 credit-hours per semester (currently two courses). Research/creative activity in area of expertise, professional participation, and university service are expected of all faculty at Southern Connecticut State University. Required Qualifications: M.F.A. in Graphic Design or related field or equivalent terminal degree by time of appointment; successful discipline-specific teaching experience at the college level; strong professional skills; interest in pursuing research/creative activity; interest in working within a liberal arts environment and developing collaborative professional relationships across the University. Preferred Qualifications: Preference will be given to candidates with teaching experience beyond teaching assistantships and strong skills and interests in the areas of interactive design cited above.
