The University of Florida School of Art + Art History, College of the Arts, invites applications for the position Assistant Professor in Graphic Design. The faculty member will pursue an active program of research; teach a 2–2 load of courses at the undergraduate and graduate level; supervise MFA students; and contribute service to the university, the community, and the profession. Research and teaching specialization: history and theory of design and visual communications (graphic design). We are especially interested in candidates whose research and teaching investigates and explores historical and theoretical issues as they intersect with one or more of the following categories: race, ethnicity, indigeneity, decoloniality, cross-culturality, transnationality, gender, sexuality, and/or disability. The successful candidate must be able to contribute substantially to our graduate and undergraduate design programs. Ability to teach design studio courses and critique design work is also desirable. We welcome applicants who can contribute to a diverse and inclusive environment through their scholarship, teaching, mentoring, and professional service. In addition, the successful candidate can expect to work with students, faculty, and staff from a wide range of disciplines, and social and cultural backgrounds.

• Terminal degree (PhD, DDes, MFA, MDes, MGD) in graphic design history, graphic design, or related field by August 16, 2019;
• Relevant teaching or instructional experience;
• Ability to teach courses on graphic design history and theory; and
• Evidence of success in promoting an environment that advances diversity, equity, and inclusion.
• Graduate level teaching;
• Research specialization that investigates and explores diverse historical, contemporary, and theoretical issues in graphic design;
• Ability to integrate the role of history and theory in design research and practice;
• Ability to teach design studio courses and critique design work;
• Evidence of a strong conceptual approach to graphic design;
• Experience working in a collaborative, interdisciplinary manner; and/or
• Demonstrable interest in developing productive connections across disciplines at a research university
